Birthing Pool
The moment you become pregnant you are faced with many decisions to make. Deciding on how you
would like to deliver your new arrival is just one, however it is a very important decision to make to ensure
the best delivery for your child and for the mother.
It was estimated that last year more than 5000 woman in the UK,
used a birthing pool to ease labour pains, reduce stress and lessen the need for drugs.
Research has been carried out over the last ten years and it has proved that submersion in warm
water can shorten labour and improve the pain level. Labouring in warm water can reduce the use of drugs
required for pain relief, which cross the placenta making the baby sleepy and proving more difficult to
breastfeed.

Extract from NHS
"The opportunity to labour in water is recommended for pain relief by The National Institute
for Health and Clinical Excellence. You may want to use water for labour and also to have your baby in
the water, and this can be at home, in birth centres or at the hospital. Water birth is recognised and supported
(for healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies) by both The Royal College of Obstetricians and the Royal
College of Midwives".
